Join the Department of History as a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, specializing in Modern Europe and the World. Teach engaging online and in-person courses in lower, upper division and stacked graduate European and World History, as well as help deliver the key Junior and Senior Capstone courses, develop a research agenda consistent with the field of specialization, present research findings, and publish in the field of specialization and actively participate in service activities at the department, college, university and community level. The Department of History at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of History with a specialty in Modern Europe and the World. The History Department offers a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in History. The specific teaching load will depend on a successful applicant’s expertise and departmental needs. The workload for this position is likely to be teaching and a combination of research and service to the university, community, and discipline.

To thrive in this role, a candidate should have evidence of successful teaching, strong interpersonal and communication skills, knowledge of contemporary curricular content for history, and advanced graduate-level training in history.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in History, with an emphasis in Modern Europe and the World. Demonstrated potential for ongoing scholarly achievement and evidence of teaching effectiveness as appropriate to appointment at the rank of assistant professor. 

Preferred qualifications: Specialization in Empire, Environment, and/or Circumpolar North or South History. Experience teaching at introductory and advanced undergraduate levels as well as both face-to-face and online.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, 9-month base, tenure-track faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and  full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, faculty time off, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
